It's very common for the automatic CCT (cam chain tentioner) on the F4i to fail. The OEM automatic tentioner will go bad and doesn't give it proper tention. I replaced it with a manual on my 02 F4i, http://www.cbrzone.com/sprockets.html (http://www.cbrzone.com/sprockets.html), before I sold it. Replacing it is pretty straight forward, but the spot is small so getting your hands in there is a pain.

I did a Google image search, and found a few pix

also remember that you'll need a new gasket when replacing the CCT.

installation will require removal of the tank, airbox, and the throttle bodies (i think).
