View Full Version : Why I bought my RR...

I bought it over a Triumph Daytona 675 because of how refined a package it was, and how well it fit me ergonomically. I also think that Honda reliability is a big factor, as well as just "bang for the buck". To me, the bike has precision in throttle, shifting, and braking that I had never experienced before in a bike.
I didn't buy the RR because of some magazine article or sportbike review. I don't care about shoot-outs, because even though I ride track once in a while I'm not riding at the limit, and the bike has to fit me for a lot more days of the year on street than track.
After fit, styling is a factor but once I'm on the bike it means nothing - I'm not riding to be seen on some eyecandy - I'm riding the bike because it feels good under me, has a satisfying sound, and because the journey is more important than the machine I rode there on.
But mostly...it seems to get me laid a lot more than before.

i bought mine for a couple of reasons
1. because after 2 years of planning and talking about buying the new R6, i got to test ride one of Freddy Spencer's 600RR's at Femmoto... from the minute i took that bike out of the pits and onto the track, i couldn't stop smiling. it was so smooth, and so comfortable. it felt incredibly stable in the corners, the shifting, the braking, the throttle... everything was smooth. all this and it was a bike that wasn't set-up for me, i've no idea what kind of tires were on it, and for sure the suspension wasn't adjusted for me. and yet, it felt great.
okay... so i wasn't exactly convinced. i still love the yamaha r6, IMHO that is a beautiful bike and i absolutely love the blue. i wish i could have test ridden one of them, but i didn't. and while i'd love to have them both...
2. the second factor was money. i got a pretty killer deal on an 08 RR; a deal i wouldn't have gotten on an 08 R6
3. the few issues i have with the 08 R6 were
a. the seat height was such that i was on my toes (tip toes) just sitting on it and with my regular street riding boots on, and i knew that as soon as i put on my Sidi's i prolly wouldn't be able to reach the ground w/ both feet. this worried me with the thought of slow maneuvers, you know, like parking the bike, or leaving a driveway, etc. i felt that i'd have a greater liklihood of dropping it at such a time. (and i won't lower a bike) on the RR, i'm not quite flat-foot, but not far and slow maneuvers don't concern me.
b. yamaha changed the tail for 08 and i didn't like how it looked...
c. once i learned that honda was making the 08RR in silver... things changed. (this is of course where BV gets the blame... he kept taking me to motorcycle dealerships so that i could look at bikes, up until this point, i was unaware of the availability and didn't care for the other color choices, and the white or silver/blue 07's were gone) thanks BV :rolleyes2
yeah, so for me, there is some degree of difference in terms of aesthetics; if i don't like the look of the bike (or vehicle) i won't want to ride it, or drive it.
anyway, that's my story...pretty much

1. I've always been a Honda fan, ever since I was a little kid. My first dirt bike was a honda 50cc.
2. I had a 2002 F4i (before the banana seat), and wanted to get something more aggressive. The seating position of the F4i is not suited for me on the track.
3. I love the styling of the 03-06 600RR, althouhg 07-08 styling is starting to grow on me (especially white and silver).
4. I've had the bike since 04, so you could imagine the "actions" I've gotten since then. :naughty
