The first major mod I did to my bike was swapping out the stock rearsets on my 03RR. I went with Vortex mainly because it's affordable. Installation was pretty straight forward, although I did add loctite to prevent any of the bolts from backing out. You have the option to convert the shifter to reverse-shift but I stuck with standard shift. Since my track bike doesn't have rear brake lights, I didn't have to splice any wires to have that done. The foot pegs are a lot more grippy than stock, thanks to these SHARP spikes. Once you set your feet in a particular position, it will stay put. I had an incident where my foot slipped off of the outside peg in mid-turn, so the new grippy pegs are very reassuring. I haven't tried any other rearsets so I can't compare it with any other brands. So for, it's a good investment for me.

I've been debating getting rearsets - the stock setup on my bike feels wrong but I really have no idea what would be "right". Everybody talk about up and back, but I actually wish the pegs were more forward so i could push on them during hard braking. ?? Im a noob on this.

You should squeeze your gas tank under hard breaking, better leverage there.

I squeeze the tank lots, and got stomp pads on it as well. Always stay light on the bars, bent arms. Guess its just muh skillz that are beyond the bike's stock rearsets? laff

I used to have stomp pads too, but realize that it doesn't help me to properly hang off. If you do it correctly, you don't need anything there. Plus, it's easier to slide left and right without it there.
