comin' up on the first oil change, and the work will most likely be done at home.
any specific suggestions for type of oil? i've heard that it's best to hold-off on using the synthetic stuff, while the bike is still very low in mileage. is this accurate? and if so, at how many miles would it then be suggested to switch to the synth?
thanks!

While I don't know the exact mileage, I'd give it a few oil changes before going full synthetic. Are you changing the oil yourself?

I would go with Synthetic Blend. In fact, I need to do my first oil change as well.

I'd stick w/ Dino oil first and then make the switch over to Syn. But I forgot if you should wait till 1K or 2K miles.
How many miles do you have on it?

Don't worry about switching over to synthetic for a few oil changes. Standard Honda oil available from the dealer for you bike will be plenty slippery enough to keep your motor healthy. I use the Repsol synthetic blend in my bike now that I've been doing a few track days, but only used dino oil when I was doing purely street riding.

it's got probably under 800 miles on it, but already had 2 trackdays (prolly about 150-160 miles worth

Yeah, if I remember right, and not to start some tech thread on oil, your standard oil has AD (ashless dispersant) additives that help suspend particles in the oil and its better for brake in. Then you can switch to synthetic... I wouldnt recommend abusing an engine so much under 800 miles, but to each his own. FWIW my friend just hit 71000 oh his 2003 SV650S using Walmarts Rotella diesel rated oil! yeah, hes a cheap bastard with a long commute, also lubes his chain with WD40.

Hey... she's not a dude! :noteeth
But yeah, I use WD40 to clean my chain. The previous chain lasted 18k miles, so obviously WD40 works pretty well.

Do this oil change with Honda oil and at the next oil change switch over to Mobil 1 or whatever oil you like. Motor will be well broken in after 1K for you to switch to full syn.

Oil changes are fun. Thank goodness I had help with my first one, cuz some dumbass-tard overtightend the filter. Pretty sure I could do it on my own now. Have fun!
