Well, it time for new sprocket and chain for my 05 RR. I was wondering what gearing does everyone runs. I am currently using Driven kits with stock gearing. If I change the gearing will it make the power delivery more smooth?

smoother power take 1 tooth or 2 off the rear
if you want a more aggressive "quicker accel" go
1 down front and 2 up rear
it will hurt your overall top speed
but how often do you do 160+ :thumb

chains i like DID or RK
and sprockets i almost always use Tri metal
they last way longer then any aluminum sprocket

Thanks for the info. Any idea how much difference will it make to my speedo with one down/two up setting?

I was told that it will be off at least an addition 5% (on top of the typical 10-15% with stock sprockets). I did 1 down up front on my RR but didn't really notice that much of a difference compare to the stock gearing on my old F4i. I recently changed to -1/+2, and a 520 conversion, but haven't had a chance to test it out yet. I'm pretty anal about cleaning the chain and sprocket, so my stock aluminum rear sprocket was in excelent shape. The chain stretched out pretty much to its limit after 8k of track miles. I wrote a short post about 520 conversion here (http://www.600rrforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=225) if you want to read a little bit about it.

Going -1/+2 will make about a 10% difference. So at 60mph actual speed, your speedo would read 66mph. Assuming the speedo is accurate to begin with :D

It will also cruise at a higher RPM at the same speed. Makes a big difference in acceleration.

I've got -1 in the front with stock on back, when i got my GPS mounted im reading about 10 mph off at about 65-90 and about 15 MPH off 100-120 and its not even worth using after 120 indicated. Now i just hang out between 80-90 indicated and know im going 70-80.

Darn it, I didn't know what tri metal was called when I bought my 520 kit. RanchRider used it on his R1 a while back. Oh well, I hope the thinner aluminum rear sprocket will last me at least 10k miles.

I know that sprocket wil last longer but the tri metal wont wear on the chain as much?

No
the teeth are straight
therfore the chain will not deform due to teeth facking up

cool just making sure. didn't want to get a hard material and the chain end up fucking up. I still have many miles on my chain left but want an idea of what to go with next.
