View Full Version : *HOW TO* " Jen " Bottom Triple bolt stripped
So I was removing some forks that have Ti Hardware and 2 of the pinch bolts are sized
I need to remove the forks but I can't get the hardware off
any idea what to do ??
and how to prevent it from happening again ??
would it be better to use a 6 point socket or 12 point ??

You could try heating the clamp around the bolt. But first i think i'd try the tapping while applying pressure method... with a hammer of course.
When you reassemble use 'anti-seize' compound.

6 point is less stripping.
Wait, is the bolt head rounded off, or is the bolt just stuck in the hole?
Or is this all just some kind of sick joke?

6 point is less stripping.
I always thought the more points, the less chances of stripping it?
the more less chances
This makes my head hurt. :doh

Dave is correct. 6 points allows for more surface area when you are putting force into the bolt, so you have less of a chance of stripping the head.

I'd rather sit my lazy ass down and laugh at Rudy for not being strong enough to get his bolts out.
Seriously, Rudy, if the head isn't stripped try a 6-point socket, a long breaker bar, and impact. If the head is stripped you'll need to drill it out.
And if you have questions I'll come over and show you how to do it :naughty2
Now the triples have a anodized finnish
when applying heat should I use torch or heat gun ??
How much heat ??

I heat my triples with a cigarette lighter.
